German Aug PPI up 0.2 pct from July, slightly more than forecast
Producer prices in Germany rose 0.2 pct in August from July and were up 5.9 pct from a year earlier, slightly more than expected, according to data from the Federal Statistics Office.
Economists polled by AFX News had forecast a month-on-month increase of 0.1 pct and a year-on-year rise of 5.8 pct.
Germany's producer price index grew to 117.9 in August from 117.7 in July and from 111.3 in Aug 2005, with 2000 prices representing 100, the office said in a statement.
The Statistics Office said the year-on-year increase in producer prices was mainly driven by higher prices for energy and metals.
Energy prices in August were 14.8 pct higher than a year earlier.
Excluding energy, August producer prices rose only 3.0 pct from a year earlier and were up 0.1 pct month-on-month.
