German Sept manufacturing PMI 58.4 points; consensus 58.0

The German purchasing managers' index for manufacturing rose unexpectedly in September to 58.4 points from 58.2 in August, market sources said. Economists polled by AFX News had expected it to decline to 58.0. A reading above 50 indicates that the manufacturing sector is expanding, while below 50 indicates contraction.
